Abstract

The purpose of the study was to test the gingival stimulating effect of low frequency therapy by electric stimulator for the maintenance of healthy gingiva and prevention of early gingivitis.
28 rats with an average of 180 gr body weight were selected for the experiment Artificial calculus was adapted to lower anterior teeth to cause early gingivitis for one week. The animals were divided into experimental and control groups.
After 7days of feeding, low frequency therapy was applied to the experimental group by an electric stimulator. Experimental and control group animals were sacrificed at two day intervals and specimens were obtained.
The results were as follows.

1. Acanthosis of gingival epithelium increased in severity for 14days then showed a remarkable
decrease in the e irnental group. There was an increase in severity for 16days and then a mild decease and later then, there was in the control group. It is felt that elecric stimulation
wl decrease early gingival inflammation.
2. Pseudo-epithelimatous hypetplasia of gingival epithelium increased for 20days and then
decreased in the e imental group. There was a sharp increase in severity for 14days and then a mild decrease in teh control group. It is felt that low frequency therapy will decrease
early gingival inflammation.
3. Blood vessel dilation was observed with increasing tendency from the 14th day in the experimental group and was not observed in the control group. It is felt that prevention effects of progressing gingival inflammation and decreasing effects for early gingival inflammation
